You wouldn’t use a dirty sponge to wash your face, so why use a dirty hairbrush on your clean hair? Over time, your brush collects a "grey fuzz" made of dead skin cells, lint from clothing, and old product residue. If left uncleaned, this buildup creates friction, making your brush less snag-free and more likely to cause breakage.
Cleaning a specialized tool like the Dream Detangler™️ requires a bit more care than a cheap plastic comb. Here is the professional way to maintain your brush.
Step 1: The "Dry" Clear-Out
Every few days, use your fingers or the tail of a comb to lift the trapped hair out of the bristles. For the Full Size Dream Detangler, ensure you are reaching the base of the bristles where the synthetic boar hair is densest.
Step 2: The Warm Water Wash (No Boiling!)
Once a month, give your brush a "bath."
-
The Temperature: Use lukewarm water. Avoid boiling water, as extreme heat can permanently warp the SuperFlexi nylon bristles, ruining their ability to bend and glide.
-
The Soap: Use a small amount of gentle shampoo or a sulfate-free wash.
-
The Scrub: Use an old, soft toothbrush to scrub between the rows of bristles. This dislodges the oils that our vegan boar bristles have collected from your scalp.
Step 3: Sanitising Safely
To kill bacteria without damaging the brush, you can add a few drops of white vinegar to your wash water. Alternatively, a quick mist of a 70% isopropyl alcohol spray can sanitise the bristles. Because our brushes are vented and don't have a rubber cushion, you don't have to worry about "trapped water" causing mould inside the brush—a common problem with competitors.
Step 4: Drying for Longevity
Always dry your brush with the bristles facing down on a clean towel. This allows any water to drain out of the vents and away from the handle. Avoid using a hairdryer to dry your brush, as the concentrated heat can damage the flex of the nylon.
