Boar bristle brushes aren’t inherently bad, but they do have more than a few drawbacks that might make them less suitable for certain hair types or people's personal preferences:

1. Not Ideal for All Hair Types: Boar bristles can be too harsh for fine or delicate hair, often resulting in causing breakage in fine and brittle hair. This means for many children a boar bristle is not recommended as they are too harsh for their fine, delicate, young hair. Likewise people who are suffering from brittle hair, perhaps colour treated or chemically treated hair, those undergoing medical treatments which affect their hair that a boar bristle brush is not recommended.  Traditionally boar bristle brushes are better suited for thicker, coarser hair.

2. Less Effective on Wet Hair: Boar bristle brushes can struggle with detangling wet hair, the lack of flexibility in the bristle creates friction and drags the hair. Wet hair is hair at its most delicate state, meaning it has already stretched as far as it can go and is more prone to breakage if stretched further.

3. Hygiene Concerns: Boar bristles can harbour dirt, grime, products and oil, so they require regular cleaning to maintain hygiene. The bristle itself being a natural bristle absorbs all of these items and means they are less hygenic and clean. 

4. Cost: Traditionally natural/boar bristle brushes can be expensive compared to synthetic or man made options, which will be more budget-friendly. Just because a brush has a higher price tag does NOT mean it is a better product. We have smashed this myth time and time again.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your hair type, your beliefs, your financial situation and your personal values!
